Has anyone a Thule Pacific 100 370 Ltr Multi-purpose Roof Box, if you do did you use Thule fitting bars? or another make... does anyone know if it comes with lock and keys.. We have a 98 Mondeo if that makes any dif.
Yes, haven't used it loaded yet, but I have fitted it to the car to try it all out. I use Thule bars but the clamps are fairly universal and would fit any bars I would guess.
It does come with a single lock (with 2 locking points) and 2 keys.
Not much in the box, the roof box itself, 4 clamps that push through rubber slots in the bottom and screw tight around the roof bars, straps that feed through the clamps to hold the load in place, a pair of keys and some instructions.
Assuming you have the roof bars you need nothing else but some people put straps around the outside of the box as insurance against it popping open at high speed on the motorway and spraying your belongings across the road.
The description from Thule's web site: Fast-Grip
New, patented Fast-Grip solution for easy fixation of the box. Attach the mounting hardware inside the box, then tighten the grip claws around the load carrier bars by turning the knobs. The system is self-adjusting to the load carrier bars for maximum security. Fits carrier bars up to as much as 90 mm width. Standard on Thule Pacific.
If you want one at this price from Tesco, don't hang around, the sell out quick. This is now the third or fourth restock they have had. I missed the first lot and managed to get one the second time around.
good lluck. Personally We always use a ratchet strap around the middle of ours for extra protection having been just behind a car when theirs popped and distrubuted their tent , sleeping bags and clothing all over the M6.
We have used one for years and have never had any problems, we have used it on sevral different cars, just get new bars to fit the car and the box fits on most bars. I do find loading it cn be difficult on top of our c4 grand picasso but if you climb up on the seats you can reach easily then!
Thanks Keithandjulie, I was just talking to my husband about the ratchet straps as he was saying he's seen so many cars tonight with them on, he's a HGV driver so always on the roads, and was saying he's got a couple.. We have a Mondeo and H is tall so hopefully he'll be doing all the loading lol!!!
Can I ask whats okay to put in them? whats reccommended.
Hi weeblewobble, we just bought a Kamei roof box off roofbox.co.uk (members of this site get 5% discount). We put mainly bulky, soft stuff like clothes, coats, sleeping bags in ours, nothing too heavy. Remember to check the roofboxes and your car roofs weight limits. We are amazed how much stuff we managed to cram in to ours. Only draw-back is consumption, we lost about 5-6 miles per gallon of consumption with our car. Very handy though!
Thanks for your replies, I'll check the weight limits etc, didn't think off doing that before I ordered one! I told H my finger slipped lol and don't remember putting my card details in hehe...
So the 24hrs alone, I've ordered a Roof box, Cadac, cooking stand and bought a picnic table... mmmm think I should stop now lol!!!
We have something to sleep in and on, tent, cooking stuff and something to eat off.. Now cool boxes lol! thats something I have forgotten!! oops... think I may have to look at getting a cheap one, no ehu anyway!
