Hi i have Aldi system somtimes got nothing at all on site so got a bigger dish off e bay 54cm works fine plus got a cheap sat finder to improve my aim LOl
The digital lnbs are universal, except for the sky ones which are electrically the same except that the sky minidish has a different fitting to any other dish.
Also the analogue ones are incompatible with a digital signal, but you would be hard pushed to find an analogue LNB anymore.
As regards the dish itself, any dish is fine provided it has a digital lnb. The one from your aldi dish should fit it just fine.
If you go to the Scottish highlands you may find the aldi dish is not big enough and also if you go to the continent you will definately find you need a bigger dish as Astra2 is not intended to be available to mainland Europe.
However, it is possible to still get Astra 2 in Europe if you have a big enough dish. You can get a signal in Spain for example but you would normally need a dish in the region of 1.2 meters. The one from aldi is only any good for picking up Astra 1 and a few other satellites which are mainly non english speaking on mainland Europe.
The general theory is that the bigger the dish the better, despite this a larger dish is generally considered harder to align. I am assuming the dish you have acquired is most likely to be an old Sky Minidish and hopefully it has an LNB fitted. Sky LNBs are about a tenner if not from a satellite dealer if not.
The Sky LNB has a rectangular piece that slots into the dish wheras the generic LNBs are clamped on around the neck.
As the aldi one comes with a clamp would it not be simpler to take it with you in the van as it would be easiest to use (clamped to jockey wheel or awning pole etc...) and fit the other one on the garage?
yes thanks thats wot i want to do put the big dish on garage and take lidl dish on holiday i just was not sure if the old sky dish lnb will work with my lidl free sat reciever
Yes, won't be a problem. I have used a sky box with a Maplin dish and the Maplin receiver with a sky dish without any problem. If anything I would expect the sky LNB to be marginally better. The Aldi ones are a cheap ones with more likely to pick up interference.
The Maplin receiver is also a Silvercrest with a different name on.
