Hi,

I'm looking at buying a mains hook up and noted in the EHU recommendations on this site that a 10amp circuit breaker is the norm for EHU's, but I find the three way's them fitted with 16 and 26 amp.
Is this good practice by the manufacturers?

Also, ip44 rating is normal but I'm guessing that this is only with the lids closed. Will a normal 3 or 4 way extension with safety plugs offer equivalent safety from dust and moisture to ip44? I will be getting the EHU off the ground.

Cheers,
Steve

The 16 amp and 26 amp ratings are normal for this type of fitting, rating an EHU of 10 amps would not be safe practice as the cable and sockets would be running at their peak. With regards to the lids being open and IP44 - these should not be left out in the rain (the socket end) esp with an item being plugged into it, you'll kill somebody! IP67 would mean the unit would be suitable for total ingress into water. Having an RCD will insure your protected well and like you say keep the sockets off the ground incase of water leaking into your tent. As for the plug end, this is fine left plugged into the sites hook up facility, just don't touch it with wet hands, just incase!

Are you asking about the camping type hookups with a built in MCB and RCD? If you are I can't recall ever seeing one rated at 25 amps, the cable if it is 1.5mm would have a nominal rating of 16 amps or if it is 2.5mm 25 amps. The MCB's are normally 10 amps, most site electric hookup posts are only rated at 16 amps.

I meant to say I have never seen one with an MCB rated at 25 amps on most the cable is rated at 25 amps.

Hi,
not sure as Kampa support gave my daughter the info, - i posed the question (re MCB rating) as the info wasn't available on their site, but maybe their statistic was for something else.

The 16 amp rated MCB is by a company called Greenfield:

If anyone can recommend a EHU i'd appreciate it as i need to buy one tonight or tomorrow.

Cheers,
Steve
