sorry guys, me again, cheers again for all the advice I've been given, will def be able to put it to good use! Having received great advice on fridges and how to put up my tent, I would like to pick your collective brains on a choice of stove.

I am a bit of a reborn camper, I used to be into all of the outdoor stuff a few years ago when I was in my teens, and was a bit obsessed with the weight of my gear then. As a result am still using my old trangia stove and a gas stove which is the tiny backpacker type, folding out into a little tripod and folding back up into the size and weight of a 2p coin lol, it also makes the same noise as a welders torch!

I was going to buy the gas attachment for the trangia, but at 35 quid I reckon this is steep and would be better to put towards a newbie, 2 burner affair, and dump the tripod thing, plus you cant buy replacement, non stick pans for the trangia, only the frying pan.

Anyway, would appreciate people's recommendations on this, would like quite a robust job with plenty of heat and a low boiling time, have looked at the coleman 2 burner petrol affair, which looks good, but what do others think of it? Is this a safe option given that Ive got a four year old running around?

Weight no longer is an issue, as everything no longer has to fit into a rucksac and be the size and weight of an atom.

Also, when it rains is it safe enough to cook food in the living area of my bispace 500 that I've recently acquired?

We have 2 of the single burners ourselves and they're brilliant. As well as being pretty cheap the gas cannisters are affordable too. We use ours a lot and they cook stuff in no time. You can sit them on the ground safely so as long as you keep an eye on your kid you should be fiine. They come in their own carrying cases so are very portable which is why we got 2 of them rather than one double as they pack in the car easier. Argos do them and the gas cannisters too.

I don't see it being any more dangerous than a gas stove and probably a bit less as it folds away so well for storage and you have no gas bottle to worry about.

Only thing is that you must never, never, ever use one inside a tent - regular readers of my stuff will know I've a bit of a downer on cooking inside a tent anyway as I see it as a mostly-unnecessary risk - but the Coleman can, if you overpump it, spit out a jet of petrol (which might get lit!) through its safety valve.  If you're outdoors when this happens it's a bit of a shock.  If you're inside the tent it's a disaster!

Yes.

I've not used one myself (we were given a gas stove just as I was about to buy a Coleman and that's put it on my "boys toy" list instead of our "camping essentials" list) - but many on these boards have and I recall someone recently writing about their experience of having overfilled one (which is probably quite easy to do if you're inexperienced) and it spraying out petrol through the safety valve.

yeah, is on my boys toys list aswell really, I'm trying to convince the other half that this is actually on the camping essentials list, and I need to spend 50 odd quid on a stove as it is essential kit lol.

The coleman kit is great, check out the US website for some over-the-top equipment, the yanks certainly dont do things by halves!
