Driving down the A12 yesterday and noticed a new camping display and shop at Capel St Mary where they used to sell sheds and swimming pools. Tents erected and visible from the road. Big sign up saying 'Blackjack Camping'.
Will endeavour to have a closer look when I've got time,
Fantastic. My son is taking part in a Re-enactment show at Sutton Hoo over the weekend and I wondered if there were any camping shops near by. I will have a drive to see if I can find it, thanks
I wouldn't bother Iw257 Just been down there and it is all fenced off Not much on show either so give them a couple of days It all looks rather temporary to me so I personally would be a bit wary I have tried Googling Blackjack Camping but got nothing but I will give them the benefit of the doubt...........for now Steve B
I went there yesterday evening and spoke to the owner who offered to show me around. They are currently getting ready for opening on Saturday 7th August, that's why there's limited stock there at the moment. I wish them the best of luck starting a new venture in this climate. If they get the stock, prices and customer service right, they will do well in that location as there's no other in Ipswich. He will mainly stock SunnCamp to begin with as their factory/warehouse is reasonably close down the A12, but was open to suggestions for other makes. Obviously security is an issue, hence the herras fencing. They have a brick building and temporary marquee as showrooms. The land was cheap rent and ideal as a start-up site. I'm going to go back at the weekend to have a proper look around.
Hi all, my name is Adam. I am the man behind Blackjack Camping ! Nice to see that you are all taking a keen interest in what I am doing at Capel St Mary. Well, I would firstly like to thank all of my customers for choosing to shop with me and for all of their kind words of encouragement!
I have been interested in opening a shop on this site for some time. However, there have been some delays. When I got the 'go ahead' I was unsure what to do, being so late in the season. So, what I am doing is:
... Opening until 23rd August... (ONLY HERE FOR 3 WEEKS? I hear you cry !)
... I aim to see how the site works for me and gauge reaction from all of you.
... I can say that the response has been phenomenal and I have already made so many new friends. Therefore I have come to a decision!
... I will then develop the site over the coming months ready to open on a permanent basis from March 2010.
I welcome all of your input and suggestions and I hope that I will be here to serve you for many years to come!
Hi, is this still open today as I am looking at purchasing a large family tent and not much option of viewing any near us in the Woodbridge area... thanks
I don't know if it is still open but otherwise carry on driving down the A12 past Colchester to the A120 exit at Marks Tey. About quarter mile up A120 on right is Camperite with a large tent display & well stocked shop.
No, it closed years ago. Funny Openspac mentioned Camperite as I ordered a couple of chairs from there on Tuesday and they came today. Great online shop.
If you are looking for a tent display this time of year I suggest you call any shop you are thinking of visiting as the Outdoor displays will be gone now or very soon.

Thanks guys, drove to Norwich in the end and bought a Vango Neva they had on display. Luckily I have a large boot :). Might check out Camperite for camping stuff though as we're starting from scratch!
As Opensource Camprite is a great shop it has a decent range of tents and equipment 9 times out of 10 you can get what you want, I always try here first when I need items, and the staff are helpful too
