Having seriously considered buying a used Ford Mondeo diesel estate ( costing us £2.5k plus our car ) to replace our 4 door Focus hatchback to make our camping trips less hassle re packing I have decided to stick with the Focus and use my trailer ( just sorting tow bar ) and thought I should buy a roof box aswell. Having only been away in the Focus once with our Vango 5 man tent the car was crammed and the twins were crushed in the back ( to be fair didnt use the trailer on this trip) . We have an Outwell Idaho XL too( Fantastic tent !! ) so I need more storeage space for our trips with the Idaho and Vango. Any advice re roofboxes...size ...1/2 width , make etc would be welcome....thanks..
weve just purchased a roof box for our fiesta- karrite oddessey for our fiesta, got a lot more than what you may think, were hopefully buying an mondeo estate for next years camping, but will still use the roofbox, this was the best price we found, it was with us 3 days after order placed.
We just got a 340 litre one (full width) and it made all the difference, you can cram all the clothes/bags etc in which gives the kids room to breathe!!

It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
As it sounds like you have lots of stuff and people to carry, it'd also be worth checking out the maximum loading/towing weights for your Focus. It soon stacks up when laden with people, full boot, trailer and roof box.
I think the volume is about 264L, great thing is that when we're on site we can take it off and store it rolled up in the car boot.
I like the look of the Carnopy ones and a great price too. Just wondering, it says "100% waterproof" - have you been able to test this out for yourself at all? I'm hoping it might be better than the one that Handirack do, and am thinking about using one alongside my Thule Evolution 900 box as it would be handy to be able to take it off the rack and use it for in-tent storage.

Hi Peter,
We did a 4 hour drive back from Cornwall recently in the rain and everything inside the Carnopy was dry. It seems to be very well made and the zip around 3 sides is covered over when the bag is closed.
I like the idea of using it in the tent for storage - hadn't thought of that!
