just flicking through some of the posts on here and people are listing all the stuff they take with them just wondering how many take a trailer to carry it all!!!!
------------- bugger have you seen the weather?? sod it lets go!!
Granted there's only two of us and we only go for weekends but I'm proud to say we squeeze our life into the back of a little Hyundai Getz
This was last year:
This year we've replaced the plastic box on top (and the rather large one hidden under the table top) with a set of plastic drawers which sits taller but much thinner so we should have even more room in the back. Could possibly leave one of the back seats down if we wanted.
------------- Boys don't grow up. Their toys just get more dangerous.
2 adults, 2 sprogs (2 &6) Focus cmax with middle seat removed & large roof box. Have only ever camped for max of 6 nights. Planning 2/3 weks in Cornwall next year so may need a trailer. Don't fancy towing tho.
2 adults, Golf Mk5 5 dr Hatch, Thule 420 Lt BackUp Box, just about squeezed everything in for 18 day Hol, to Southern Ardeche France, car was not overloaded, and I had clear view out of the rear window, but to be fair the car was choca, next year will be using a trailer for sure. having a trailer would allow almost everything to be packed days before you go, making for a much easiar life.
Me the misses and 2 dogs, Mazda 6 and trailer, Lider Alicante.Keeps all the camping stuff safe in one place.Pack at leisure and unpack at leisure.Trailer definitely!

TBH, get beyond a few days, and it doesn't really increase the amount of stuff you need to take much - well not us anyway, other than some more clothes. We pack clothes (for the kids anyway) for about 8-9 days, planning on a wash after about 5 days.
So far we (2 + 2)have managed with a mondeo estate + 460L roofbox. We are full, but then more space would probably just mean more stuff in the end. However, we have started taking bikes for us all and that is really pushing us on the weight side now as that adds about another 80 kg to the load. We are probably still ok justa bout going on the weights of most of the gear but it must be close, and there is the issue of axle loadings which must be biased heavily to the rear.
And I suspect we will see further demands for stuff (eldest was looking at bodyboards earlier this year), so it is a possibility for next year.
2 Adults, 2 Kids, 4 Bikes a Toyota Corolla Verso a 700L roofbox and a 6x4 Trailer! The trailer means we don't have to have the suitcases on our laps and sit on the pillows etc!
I have heard that the Police are stopping heavily leaden cars on the M5 heading down to Devon/Cornwall and taking them to the nearest weigh bridge. Not too sure what happens if your car is found to be overweight but in therory they can make you leave stuff there or move it into your trailer (if you have one and the weight is ok).
