Silk, cotton or synthetic?

I've just come back from a great(if a little damp) first week as a family of 4.

My wife stole my £££'s 4+ season down sleeping bag as she insisted it was the only way to get her to camp as she hates being cold so I bought myself a 2 season bag which was plenty warm enough but I found it a bit clammy/sweaty. I assume the interior fabric didn't have the same ability to get the moisture away from me.

A bag liner might solve the problem with silk being my favourite option currently, but costing about half the price of the bag, I'm not keen on the price!

Does anyone have experience with different fabric sleeping bag liners who could make a recommendation? Our kids have fleece liners but I fear this might just make me warmer and more sweaty.

I use a cotton liner in a synthetic bag and it works well for me. It doesn't wick of course, but it shields you from the synthetic inner fabric. I tend to leave the bag open anyway unless it's getting down toward the comfort temp.

I can't give you a comparison with a silk liner but suspect that would be such a tempting combination with the down bag that you might not get to use it anyway.

Are you talking about seperate liners that you put in the sleeping bag?

I have a cotton one and I find it very good. I use it only on my summer bag that goes down to ( or meant to) 1degree.

I would never think of using it on my bag that is meant to go to -10. well not in the summer anyway.
As for keeping the dampness off you??? where are you getting the dampness from?
If your tent leaks the I suggest you get a bivy bag. If it is dampness from the floor then use an inflateable airbed or self inflating roll mat.

I treated myself to a silk sleeping bag liner. They are a little bit of luxury. I wore out the first one after 5 years & had a new one from decathalon for Christmas, love using it.

I love the feel of silk against my skin, and it moves around easily in the sleeping bag without getting all twisted up. I got my silk sleeping bag liners from a supplier in NZ.

buy a pertex liner , buffalo & snugpak make them - almost as comfortable as silk, wick moisture away quickly & dry out quickly & if like us your dog sleeps next to you put them on the outside of the bag to keep it clean & odour free ( the bag not the dog that is )

You're probably right, I would probably end up having to buy 2!

Thanks for all your comments so far, I'll look in to Pertex, I've heard of that somewhere before.

My daughter had a cotton bag liner but hated it.  Kept getting it tangled up.  She hated it and in the end threw it!  Now she manages without a liner at all.
