Hi all, just wondered if anyone has had any probs with outdoor megastore faulty goods policy,i bought 4 easy camp chairs on 6th june, took them on hols 8th aug used them for 2 days and 3 have frayed and split, stopped using them straight away and had to spend the rest of our 2 wk hol with only 2 beach chairs between 3 of us.came back from hols yest and rung the store today was told that the 28 day inspection period has passed therefore im only entitled to a credit note or exchange,i explained that i dont want the chairs replaced like for like but also dont want to buy chairs online again as i would prefer to see what i am buying this time but basically im stuffed i have now accepted that they will replace 3 of them as they could be a faulty batch and if they break again i can choose something else, they have pretty much sold out of most of their chairs so doesnt look like i will find anything i want.i am so dissapointed and feel like i have been well and truly mugged off.17

It's not up to Outdoor Megastore to set a faulty goods policy unless it is better than the Sale of Goods Act.

My understanding is that you can demand a refund within a reasonable time (clearly much longer than a month for chairs).  Their 28-day policy is irrelevant.

See: http://www.thesite.org/homelawandmoney/askthesiteqandas/legalandrightsqandas/refundrights

Also be aware that you can use the Consumer Credit Act if you bought the items with a credit card or other credit agreement, and the transaction was for between £100 and £30,000.

I would speak to consumer direct; if faulty i.e. not fit for purpose I think you may have rights up to 6 years!

That is what i had always believed,i explained to them that the 28 day inspection policy does not apply as i wasnt returning the chairs because i do not like them i actually really like the chairs and am dissapointed that they have broke, but to no avail  i ended up getting really frustrated and was told to stop shouting.so now ive accepted the new chairs being delivered tmrw but to be honest im not confident as they are badly made so it looks like i will be back to square one very soon.im really gutted and will not use the store again. Thanks for the advice though i will get onto trading standards and see where i stand, dont know about the consumer credit act as i bought them with a debit card so dont suppose that will apply ??

We had to return two Easy Camp chairs to OM for exactly the same problems - fraying and splitting. In fact on one, the seat bar came out of the side frame. This was on our first trip in the new tent, the w/e after the chairs were received, and we had to sit on the floor all w/e. And we're not big !

Anyway, contacted OM via email - as that's what their site said. No response. Got shirty and eventually they rang, and to be fair, arranged for pick up. They said if the chairs were "found to be faulty" they'd arrange a refund "within 28 days" from then. In our firm we refund in 3 days but I thought, well, it's the busy season, we'll see.

Thirty odd days passed and no refund so sent 'em another missive. Got a call, when we actually on our second trip, enjoying our new Royal chairs, apologising profusely, they'd "mislaid the file". Refund passed then, about 35 days after the return.

So, not totally impressed with OM, nor with Easy Camps chairs. At the time I copied Oase in (ultimate holding co for Outwell and Easy Camp, plus Robens) got no response whatsoever.

There's clearly been a problem with Easy Camp's chairs. I'd ring OM and speak to Laura, and mention these posts.

You are right about the debit card - the CCA only applies for goods bought with credit (in which case the company that provides the credit shares the contractual liability with the merchant).  As a tip for future purchases, even paying the deposit with a credit card makes the credit card company liable for the whole amount, however the balance is settled.  This is particularly useful for expensive holidays where the holiday company charges a credit card surcharge.  Probably not a camping holiday, then!

I wanted to retun a chair to them recently

when I went intot eh psot office and gave them the address and postcode its listed as a Scaffold company. POst office said best not to risk sending it. They did ahve another camping type store listed at different numbers along the street but it was a different name.

in the end my wife said she would have the chair which leaves me back hunting for the sort i want

Think you would have been OK - I'm pretty sure that there is Scaffold Company directly next door. As Outdoor Megastore seem to do much of their business by Mail Order - It should get through
