we have been caravanning for many years, while we were away recently we needed to level the van side ways. and found this impossible even with blocks it still was not level. this was the only way we could pitch , i was not happy with this but there was nothing i could do about it unless we waited till the next day and moved pitch .

we have decided to buy levelers but want to know which or what is the best for a caravan. do we need a pair or just one also does the caravan wheel stay on these with out slipping, can we use these with a motor mover.

thanks for any replies.

Hi, Nora, I've got a mover and the ramps that go up in steps and chocks. I normally reverse up them then put the chocks in front of the wheel. When you leave, the mover really comes into its own because you can release the weight off the chock so easily.

I've got two of each but I'm not sure you'd actually need two - we bought them for the campervan when you might need two to level from front to back.

If that ever happens again then you can always level it by fixing one wheel in place and swiveling it on the point so that the other  (lower ) wheel goes up the hill ( or if you fix the lower wheel move the higher wheel down the hill. You caravan will not be square in the pitch but it will be level.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

This is confusing with two Noras on this thread!! I assume the Chatsworth thread means you, Nora, not me Nora!

They're not very expensive - try this.

nora there are not many of us so it does get confusing. that link is a big help thank you.

janus

i know what you mean but that was impossible we had to pitch along a hedge i think they had altered the pitches due to the bad weather and the worn grass areas. we had to pitch side ways along the hedge that is why we were so unlevel.

never mind there always seems to be something new to discover. we never stop learning do we.

nothing to do with ramps at the min, we went to our new local dealer and found the one recommended.

but i went on the cc web site and they must have had a cancelation so i have booked chatsworth for october half term. i was so pleased BUT i havent told OH he said he wouldnt go in october due to the time of year "he worries about travelling so far in the middle of winter" (as he calls it ) poor thing.

but im sure it will be fine and autumn is so nice in the caravan cold frosty with the grounds of chatsworth to explore.

The best but most expensive solution is to use the newer Milenco alumimium leveller. You only need one for a single axle 'van and means that on soft ground any settlement after a few days can be easily adusted. It works well if like me you have an AL-KO receiver wheel clamp, because it means the wheel can be clamped first and the caravan levelled afterwards. The best price I found was from "www.thecaravanshop.co.uk" in Glsagow.

We were in France this year and a family turned up with a caravan and every conceivable gadget and accessory. They had the Millenco leveller. After moving the van to around 6 different positions on their pitch (with an electronic mover), they tried to level it. After about 45 minutes and some very heated discussion, the leveller was flung across the pitch and into the road.

I can only assume they didn't get on very well with it.1717

Made my leveller up in the workshop, design along the lines of the Bulldog and similar ones. Worked a treat when we took the Pathfinder away in July - we were on the Verwood site and our pitch had a steep slope. As our newly-acquired caravan is no heavier than the FC, I expect to be able to level it the same.
I don't think I can post the pic again but it is in this thread:-
