I can't find a camping table I like! Me and Mrs MG use a Guadeloupe tent and cook on a double burner either outside the tent or in the porch. We have a table from the last millenium with aluminium legs and chipboard top which has just given up on us - the legs are so rusty they won't unfold anymore. But all the tables we see nowadays are horrible - plasticky, cheap rubbish. Finding something that is nice and chunky but still lightweight, useable as a cooking and dining table and looks OK seems to be impossible. Any ideas?

I've had one of these for a few seasons now and rate it highly.

Well made, folds up small and has drop leaves too. Not lightweight but robust and sturdy do not lend themselves to lightweight IMO.

Great bit and bobs hammock underneath too.

Mr MG, have you thought about rebuilding the table you have? The aluminium legs themselves shouldn't be rusty - I guess you mean the bolts that hold them together? How about replacing the top with a nice bit of marine ply, and replacing rust hardware with new stainless steel nuts and bolts and screws?

Ha! You've got me there! I think the legs are once-painted steel. Thanks for the thought but Mrs has broken it trying to get it to unfold. Marine ply sounds a good idea ... a google search is afoot ...

PS thx shready, after something a bit smaller but I'll have a look at the other outwells

Can't recommend a particular table, but I would certainly recommend that you get one with separately adjustable legs. We used one with standard legs for over four years, taking small wood blocks to put under legs to level it on uneven ground. We bought one with adjustable legs last spring, and it's so much less hassle setting it up - only need to take the wood blocks for the kitchen unit now 17

We've just bought a double width aluminium slatted table with cross legs at each end plus one adjustable leg to even things up if necessary. MUCH more stable than the lightweight square aluminium slatted one we had and room to put your knees under too. Folds/rolls up into a cylinder bag so doesn't take up much space and not too heavy. I also intend to put the cooker/s on it when weekending rather than taking a camp kitchen. They're widely available under different brand names (mine's a Westfield(?) and cost about £32 plus P+P, which is cheaper than I had seen earlier in the year. Very happy with it.
