Hi, I was just after a bit advice - we bought an extention for our montana 6 (from World of Camping) and used it for the first time last week.

When we took it out of the bag there was a small tear in the material, but we needed to use it anyway.  But then due to one night of heavy winds, one of the seams at the bottom tore too.

World of camping are saying they need to see photos to determine whether we can have a replacement.  But surely, if it's faulty we should have a new one?

Comments appreciated - thanks x

if you had sent it back without using it then of course they must replace it under warranty beacuse it is faulty goods

BUT if they realise that you used it despite seeing that it was faulty, they can possibly argue that your action (in using it) caused or contributed to the further damage ..........in that case, you may have invalidated any warranty on their part

fingers crossed for you

its worth a try taking it back we bought a montanna 6 in 2006 (the year of the leaky outwells) from Blacks. First time we used it in the rain was in July this year and it leaked, so got in touch with blacks and they replaced it after sending it away to outwell.

Send it back. When you pitched it appeared fine and you had not noticed the tear (had you ) A night of light winds later and you notice a fault had developed. It is faulty. Not fit for purpose. Sales of Goods Act 1984 (or whatever year it quotes) gives you this protection. It is meant to be of durable quality and life. Don't let them fob you off. Your rights are legally protected despite what the store will tell you

I bought a tent from World of Camping that had a small hole in it (discoverd when first pitched).

I reported it to WoC who asked for photos to show the hole (I think this is standard procedure). I e-mailed pictures and they sent a very quick reply to advise that they couldn't replace the tent as out of stock but offered a repair kit + money off or a refund. Their customer service was very good and when I accepted the repair kit I also got extra seam sealant and about £50 worth of goods. (Can't even tell where the hole was now!).

I can't see how this would be different to your situation as the item has to be put up to be able to see if there are any problems. For a second tear to appear just shows that something wasn't right in the first place. And as has been said previously - what if you hadn't noticed the first tear...?

I don't think you'll have any problems returning it.
