I've just bought some picnic rugs from our local £1 shop (6 in total) as we can't get a carpet for our tent at the moment (sold out)!
They'll do the trick, at the end of the day it's just another layer of protection for chairs, table legs etc and it's a bit more comfortable to sit on!

Bit bulky when you're packing the car. These of us without tent carpets usually use cheapo picnic rugs, the thin plastic or foil backed ones.
Whoops do we? I went and got myself a Persian Rug but have a large van so space isn't an issue.
We have a bit of carpet left iover from our small bedroom which is a little wider than the tent door and just fits across the tent. We also have a large rug bought from IKEA in Nottingham for under a tenner.

Usually.
There's always someone that does it with more style than the humdrum peasants though!

WHERE do people find the bargain picnic rugs? Never managed to bag one yet!!!!! (Sour grapes)
I got six or eight a few years back when M&S were handing out all sorts of picnicy things free with five deli items. Even the 99p items counted, so over the course of the summer I collected picnic blankets, coolbags, parasol, carry-chairs, campsite toys...the offer was on for two years running, in fact, and I still come across little caches of freebies here and there in the utility room. My mum and my sister were both M&S shoppers too and my mum in particular got me a lot of items.
