is it ok to use an electric coolbox as a normal coolbox? I have 2 electric coolboxes but am going camping next weekend without electric. What I wonder is will the box cope if I just take bags of ice and frozen milk/ meals etc. I've been looking at getting an Igloo maxcold as tbh even on electric the sound of the motor/fan on the coolboxes drives me nuts at night.
Anyone seen any good deals on the Igloos?

we have a campingaz one and yes the fan does drive you nuts,we turn it off at night and then back on as soon as we get up.The stuff is still cold inside.
And yes if required you can just use it as a normal non electric cool box.

The electric ones have to be well insulated to hold the cold when their switched off and also to make the most of any cooling they produce, so yes, they do make very good coolboxes.
I'm glad the sound of electric cool boxes drive their owners nuts and not just us poor sods unlucky enough to be camped next to them! My last night at a beautifully peaceful campsite became very fraught in August when a family camped behind us had one grrrrrr, at least they turned it off when THEY wanted to sleep (at midnight) but made for a stressful last evening for me
We have 2, one for food and the other for drink. We also turn them off at night. If it is particularly hot I chuck a bag of 99p ice in the drinks one - it takes about a day to melt but at least we have ice for Pimms o'clock!!!
