Thanks again for your help. We weren't convinced that the battery was ok, so we got 2nd opinion and confirmed battery is no good. So we will have to buy another. Is it better to get a sealed one or not?
I had a Varta on my mover, (4 years) which seemed indistructable. I put it on my car, and left the b... thing on my car, when I traded the car, whilst I was charging the car battery. I tried to recover it, but it had been swapped by the garage for use on the 'bosses' caravan. My fault, but I do regret the loss.
Batteries will last longer than 2 years if you are charging through zig unit on caravan battery will only charge to 3quarters of its capacity that's so the zig unit cannot over charge and cause fire. I have 2 elecsol 100 amph batteries with a 50 watt solar panel fixed to caravan roof they were in last van 2 years transferred to this van 3 years ago, that's 5 years they are still as good as new, they are sealed batteries so never check and we rally 48 weekends a year just on battery.
Hope this helps Regards Geoff
Ps batteries never been mains charged
Those Maplin solar chargers are a waste of time. Check the output, it would take about three days to charge a mobile phone so keeping a leisure battery topped up is not going to happen.
