Hello all,

I have recently discovered and become fascinated by the whole area of solar cooking and I reckon there is great potential there for cooking while camping on sunny days.
Yes, even this far north! The air temperature does'nt even have to be that high it just has to be sunny. The idea of a cooking device for camping which does not require any fuel is very appealing. There are a myriad of different types of solar cooker with loads of info online on how to build them. For those of you who are interested, here are a couple of useful links:

http://www.solarcooking.org/plans/
http://www.solarovens.net/

There's loads more out there if you just google "solar ovens" or "solar cooking"

We have a gas oven & hob in the van. We take a gas camping double burner for outside. We also have an electric hob in the awning and sometimes take the microwave. We also have the barbie.  Don't think we need other means of cooking! Just remembered we have a camping gaz burner for emergencies.

I'd be most interested in how you get on.

I was studying these on the net. £16.50 won't break the bank if it does not work...........

Alternatively you can have a couple of leisure batteries, 200W of solar power, and a 1800W inverter, and then use that to power your cooking device. I use the above to power a 1500W electric cooking plate. Free to use and can go anywhere.

But the option above is far cheaper so worth looking at that first if you want to cook for free
