Has anyone got a Clarke IG1000 1KW Inverter generator ? Just seen them in `machine mart` for £289.00 . It doesnt need to power heating , kettle or microwave mainly to charge the battery and run the TV and charge things up . I will use it on race Circuits’ whilst marshaling and possibly CL or CS sites were there is no leccy Im assuming that 64 DB is quiet but I would love to here from someone who has one .
Hi we bought the Clarke ig1000 early this year and found it to be very good.... we have used it on non-electric sites and track days, to be fair we were worried in case it was too loud but walking away from your caravan to just past the next caravan and you could not hear it. I know it's not as quiet as the Honda engine ones but for the price it's worth every penny, We normally run TV (50w) and charging system with a tiny increase in revs from tick over, running the fridge as well increase's a bit more but not enough to give a headache. The 500w heater did cause the revs to rise quite high :-). I found it best to use the sensing switch all the time this lowers the engine revs when not drawing too much current keeping noise to a minimum.
By the way we got ours from the returns section found in some machine marts it was brand new maybe only been started and returned for whatever reason you get a shorter warrantee but this saved us about 70 odd quid..... I think it was 185 + vat
if it's a return you could ask them to start it up so you can hear it before buying, they were only too happy to help
Paul, the only thing is...you said you couldn't hear it by the time you'd got just past the next caravan. That means the people in the next caravan could hear it. Track days and so on, not much of a big deal, but on a camp site... I dunno. Personally I wouldn't use one, and I wouldn't want to be next to one I could hear either.

Yeah your correct it's nice to have peace and quite and were the same, that's why we also have a solar panel but that was'nt the question.... I think a bit of common sence comes into it if your on a CS and you know you may need to use a genny then give a bit of consideration and park further away, When billy said he wanted it to charge his battery and a bit of TV I don't think he ment running it all day!!! But I could be wrong :-)
hi guys
Thanks for the advice . The genny would probably only be used for Race weekends anyway . I Know how noisy they can be especially on race Circuits. I didnt really want to add to the noise its just seems quite cheap . Solar panels should be good but with the hustle and bustle i would worry about it getting broken. As for CL & CS`s i was thinking out loud . I have listened to the Honda Gennys and they are really quiet however very expensive.I will check out the returns sections of Machine Mart as mentioned by Paul to see if they have any and hopfully give me a demo to check out the noise myself.
