Hi there. I'm considering purchasing a Pyramid PDQ Pop porch awning. It seems to be exactly what I want. Has anyone ever had or seen one and if so are they any good.Nigel

PDQ = Pretty Damn Queer !

I thought they fitted my bill until I read most of the reports on here and witnessed a chap wrestling with one to put it up and away at the end of a weekend.

As per Rustyfrogs link above, I've bought one of those from Riversway and it worked a treat.

I've trialled a number of porch awnings, inc the PDQ the first Op mentions - as others have said, don't bother with it!
The Outdoor Revolution Porchlite XL though is lightweight, quick to put up and proved to be excellent in the 'dodgy' weather we had too, with no leaks. The instructions are sewn into the bag. Comes with guys, high-viz webbing guy's, pegs etc., but no draught thingy for the bottom channel of the van (can be got easily though) I'd happily recommend these, especially at this reduced price. The illustration is deceptive too, it's a pretty good size for a light-weight porch.

Thanks for all the replys. Can you tell me if the adverse comments relate to the old pdq or to the new ' improved' version with stronger material.  Next year I'm going for three months to Italy and I don't want to take my full sized awning but I did want one that was about 3.5 mtrs long and quick to put up. Any idea's. Nigel

Hi

We have the Prochlite Plus XL and it has stayed up all sorts of weather. We have just purchased the Techlite 1 for a little bit more space. Both awnings represent good value for money, Well made, and low weights. We also have a full Starcamp Cameo, but its such a pain to put up we use the porchawnings more often than not.

We know a few with this type of awning and to watch them put it up when they land is a doddle, but when it comes to putting the thing away you need a pair of step ladders to reach that high, we also know of someone who had one and had nothing but trouble with water ingress on the awning rail side as in a bad windy storm it jiggled the awning rail loose. Beware. good luck, gary

The Porchlite & Techlite awnings (and similar with fibreglass rods) don't need anything other than the caravan step to remove when de-camping, at the most. The rods easily withdraw from the sleeves of the awning and the awning itself very easily runs out of the rail.
Like all awnings, you might find the 1st few times you use one, it might be a pain to fit/remove. Certainly the Outdoor Revolution porch/lightweight awnings which I've tested have proved their worth, plus with the supplied guy's, I've not known of users with water ingress problems through rails either.

Got the sunncamp 260. They are easy to put up and take down and make a lovely awning in use. And they look good.
