I am looking to buy my brother in law a portable charcoal BBQ for Christmas. I would like to buy him a Cobb but the finances won't stretch to it.

He will be using it when he goes camping with a group of friends so it needs to have a decent cooking area. But it also must fold up as small as possible as space is an issue.

I have been looking at the Weber Go Anywhere which seems to tick most of the boxes. Anyone got one? Any other suggestions?

Yes we have one. We have an old Weber BBQ at home, had it years and still going strong so when we decided to go camping this year we bought the "Go Anywhere" and we were not disappointed. Downsides we found were it doesn't pack down smaller than the box it comes in so that should give you a guide. Plus I used it on an aluminium camping kitchen stand and was amazed to see the table top melt below the BBQ (my wife thought it very hilarious and still reminds me of it), so you need to site it on something reasonably fireproof/melt proof) I have got myself a small paving stone (B&Q) for next year to put on the camping stand (too late was the cry). Another downer is that the wire legs it stands are "slippy" again this may be me using it on the camping stand (wrong surface) perhaps it's best on the floor. Upsides, it does everything it says on the can, brilliant BBQ.

the campingwithsoul one is  similar to the notebook folding bbq.i have the notebook and you just unfold it and put in a burn the bag type charcoal.within 10 minutes you are ready with can in hand and bbq tools. to start cooking your meat e.c.t.i also have a cadac which i think is brilliant.regards.Alex

We have a great little stainless steel barrel BBQ which we use regularly.

You can open it put to give 2 really good sized cooking areas or fold it closed and do a roast dinner!! we bought ours from a local garden centre in their sale - it cost £7!!
We carry the bag of charcoal inside the BBQ to save a bit of space.

Thanks everyone - the Weber looks favourite at the moment. I'm also going to have a look at the Cadac Safari Chef as a gas alternative.
