I always use the proper stuff in the top and bottom tanks of my cassette toilet. I was thinking what is so special about the pink stuff that could not be substituted for some toilet cleaner from Lidl or the pound shop?
I just use plain water in the top tank of my porta potti I don't bother with pink, its only plain water thats in a bog cistern, after all. You do need to use the blue in the bottom tank tho.

Or green!
According to Thetford, the pink stuff smells of lavender and lubricates the waste tank closing blade and helps prevent build-up of deposits, so I wouldn't consider it absolutely essential, but it could help prolong the life of the unit.

Would be interested in your thoughts.

Do not use cheap toilet cleaner, these may be bleach based hydrochloride and may react with the formaldehyde based blue stuff. I am not a chemist but these are strong chemicals and should not be mixed. You can get eco friendly toilet chem that serves both tanks. It is obviously correct that the bog at home only uses fresh water but there is a lot more of it per flush and it flows a lot faster so a little additive surfactant in the portaloo will help the pan to be easier to clean

Last year we were on a site that does not allow the Thetford made toilet chemicals, only the Top and Tail products of Fenwicks. Something to do with the site's sewage system.
Since then we have only used this top & tail stuff. Easier to carry one bottle instead of two and if you accidently spill some where it should not be, it is easier to clean up and does not leave the 'orrible, lingering smell that the Thetford Blue stuff has.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
HI Where can I get Top and Tail products of Fenwicks? Had a quick look on their site - but couldn't see where to order.
Most caravan accesoriy shops have it. Also caravan sites that only allow "green" toilet chemicals usually have it in 45 gallon drums and they will top up your own bottles at a reasonable price.
I'm a big fan of this stuff - which is easier to use than any other I've bought. It's stopped the appearance of "black bits" (mould) in the flush water, too.
