A couple of you asked me to let you know how good these camp beds are:

http://www.britishmilitarysurplus.co.uk/ishop/1069/shopscr310.html

First, thanks to "nosjon" for finding them in the first place lol

I had great service from the website, ordered them on the Sunday and, being impatient, decided to call them when I'd not heard anything by Thursday (the website does say allow 28 days, though). The guy I spoke to said, "I'll nip down and get them to pack in, now". Next day, they arrived.

The beds themselves are great. They measure 72" long and 27" wide and stand 18" high when set up.

I'm six foot (more or less) and well built and I fit on it without any trouble.

They're a little bit difficult to put up. I was able to get three of the corners pulled tight, but couldn't get the fourth one done on my own. I found a video on youtube that helped. You need to have two people and you need to lever the bar that stretches the material while someone else moves it in to position.

I know that sounds complicated, but it makes sense when you come to do it ;-)

I also ordered two sleep mats that were £3 each. These are OK, but needed a wipe down. Well, they are surplus from the army lol

So, that's about it, it cost me £10 for each bed, £3 for each mat and £7.50 for delivery. At £33.50 all in, it was still cheaper then the highgear one I was going to buy.

I thought I'd better post a photo of it, as well. Here's Henry enjoying a relax on one of them

Will you let us know what it is like to sleep on? I take it you are a dedicated consumer reporter and will be testing it out tonight. 17

I've got a couple of these beds but use them in conjunction with air beds. I found them to be uncomfortable to use on their own owing to the rigid bar at the bottom. I like to sleep with my feet sticking out of the end of the bed consequently the bar made it uncomfortable. With an air bed they're fine.

Tentguy,

I've been a bit on tender-hooks, hoping the beds were ok and you found them good value for your hard-earned cash.

You might like to keep the web-site in your `favourites` because there are loads of cheap goodies on there, as you've probably noticed.  How about the desert boots for £12!  You just can't go wrong with this site in my view.

Kind regards,

Eric.

Hi Eric,

thanks for pointing me toward the site :-)

you're right about the value lol we were looking at it at work and wondering how they sell all the stuff so cheaply

as far as quality goes, if the stuff is good enough to withstand use in a warzone, then a weekend on a site shouldn't pose much problem for it

I'm already looking at a few other items from there for the new year, so, thanks, again
