Aplogies for the silly question, but I'm having a senior moment and cannot for the life of me think how to do the calculation!

A site 240 volt power supply is listed as 10 amps.

We plug in a 1kw (1000watt) fan heater and have the water heater on, which draws another 1kw (hypothetical). Add two 40 watt lights and two 60 watt heat tubes. So we're using 2200watts (2.2kw)

What percentage of the available power are we using?

It looks like your 2.2kw of power is your limit on a 10 amp supply and it would be best to keep it a little lower than that if possible as a safety margin.

Watts divided by Volts = Amps

I did the sum a while back using the watts described and that came out near the 10 amp rating but I couldn't remember how I got there.

Just like life really; I can't remember how I got where I am sometimes!!

Re the amount of electricity used by the original poster - don't forget electricity is used for the light in the fridge, the electric kettle, the water pump, the toilet flush, the ignition on the cooker, charging small electrical items and lots of other random things.   It is never worth using the maximum amount available!

And don't forget that on some very crowded continental sites the voltage may well drop to, say, 220 volts which will increase the amperage taken slightly.

Actually the exact opposte applies,the lower the voltage the lower the Amps.

My physics teacher must have been wrong then!
1000 watts divided by 230 volts equals 4.34 amps
1000 watts divided by 220 volts equals 4.54 amps

Your teacher was correct as far as that equation is concerned but it is the wrong equation.
Ohms law:
I = V / R (Current = Voltage Divided by Resistance)
To determune the Current you need to know the resistance and the voltage.

At least an easy question 230v X 10 amps = 2300 watts.

It's not critical if you slightly overload you have at least a 13% margin.

You also have diversity meaning not everything will be on at the same time.

To remember the formula think of a triangle.
P(power) on top with I(current) and V(volts) on the bottom.

Cover the one you want and the others will be in the right place.

Works with ohms law as well.

V on top with I and R on the bottom.

I remember the triangle formula. Give to us in a second year physics lesson. I still visualise it when I want work out current.

But really if I want work it out quickly then knowing that Watts divided by volts gives the number of amps. Then dividing the number watts by 250 gives an approximate answer which in reality should be close enough so 1kW equals 4 amps. If you want it even closer then add 10% to the amps. 1kW equals 4.4 amps   The correct answer is 1000/230 is 4.35 amps but I think 4.4 is close enough.
