Hi,

We are new to camping and had our first outing in our Ohio XL and awning mid October. We kept the awning zipped up and used this area primarily for cooking etc. The heater was used in the actual tent, but it was still pretty chilly, especially in the evening. I was wondering if it would be safe to use 2 heaters at any one time? We have booked for Sandy Balls in Dorset for Easter and as it's at the very beginning of April, it may be a tad chiily again!

Thanks in advance.

As mentioned, two electric heaters will trip the campsite supply. You can supplement your electric heater with a gas heater, but not wise to leave a gas heater on inside a tent unattended or overnight.

I had a similar problem at the New Year Meet in sub zero temperatures. My electric heater just wasn't coping very well. I had to resort to using my camping stove for extra heat...not recommended. Somebody lent me a small gas heater for a short while and it made all the difference.

You should be ok with a low voltage electric heater running all night, and this should be sufficient to keep the chill off.

I use a small caravan portable heater in my awning and it works very well, just remember that it will trip the electric if you have the heater running and put the kettle on too

Thanks for the replies folks. I'll stick to the one heater and some jumping jacks if I get too cold!

Erm, you can use 2 heaters provided the you don't exceed 10Amp or whatever the site HU is rated at - probably 10. If you had 2 1kW heaters this would be fine provided you didn't use an electric kettle at the same time. Maybe just get a 2kW heater from Argos - this will draw only 8 AMPS. I camped in Devon this time last year in -6. I was admittedly in a much smaller tent (I always use my little tent when camping in Winter) but with the heater set to half power (1KW) the tent was as warm as home, sometimes too hot!

We have used hot water bottles in the past, in addition to our heater. Wrap up warm and stick one up your jumper - it works!
