I tried the dry frying method at the weekend, very lightly smeared non-stick pan with oil and used a gas burner in trangia windshield. About 6 minutes to lightly brown both sides so not the quickest and the "toast" had a faint flavour of fried bread, the addition of homemade blackcurrant jam certainly improved matters but I remain unconvinced.

I think I will be leaving camping based toast preparation duties to the nearest greasy-spoon.

Hmmmm. I've always been tempted to do this with my Trangia but the thought of the poisonous meths fumes being absorbed by the toast always puts me off.

Presumably you are still alive to make this post so perhaps I'm being too cautious.
