We purchased a new stove and I've managed to source a 4.5kg calor gas cyclinder for it on Freecycle. I just need a regulator. I see on ebay there are some screw on one's and some clip on one's. Which are better?

You need the blue screw on type for Calor Butane which I assume is what you have.

300200

Around £7 from any caravan shop.

I may be wrong, but I thought that the 4.5kg Calor cylinders only takes the screw on type regulator.  All the 4.5kg bottles I have used in the past came with a thred.

I think it's just the larger cylinders which have the clip regulator.  Personally I have never had a problem with the screw on type (as long I can find the spanner!)

Will this clip on not work?

|f you look at your gas cylinder you will see that it has a thread, the only way to connect the regulator is with a screw type.

OK, people. Thanks. I haven't really looked at the cylinder yet. I was just browsing ebay for a regulator and I saw this "clip on" which the advert says "Standard size for all Calor Butane cylinders (Blue!)". Seems misleading then.

Having checked out www.calor.co.uk/safety/using-calor.../Using-Calor-Gas-Safely-Butane.pdf I see that the 4.5kg must have the screw on and the bigger ones must use a 21mm one like in this ebay add. So the info in the advert is wrong, hence my confusion.

I'm good to go, thanks.

Yep, always worth checking first     although under the cicumstances I am sure you would have been able to get a refund due to the advert being misleading.

One of my pet subjects this.  Of all the useful things the Eurocrats could have done, standardising gas & electrical fittings didn't happen.

They are different all over Europe.  You can get adaptors & they can be re filled, but not without risk.  That has been discussed to death on here so we'll leave it there I think!.
