I am soo tempted by this offer as we are considering a bit of walking and camping with my 8yo but I already have a coleman backpacker stove so dont "need" it. What are they like in terms of performance? Tempted to buy even if just to ebay as looks like I would make money back but not the best month money wise -- must step away from the buy button...!!!
Elegance, simplicity, durability. All words that spring to mind. But not performance (nor lightweight for that matter). Not if you are used to a gas stove. The real Trangias are lovely things or archaic novelties, depending on your point of view. You either love 'em or you just don't get it.
Even if you don't use the burner, they make lovely quality saucepan sets. We are still using our Trangia set with additional multipurpose ring and billycan 15 years on with our large campingaz stove. The stove makes a nice backup heat source too.
There's a certain kudos involved with Trangia cookers which in my opinion is unwarranted. I have a collection of around 30 stoves of all types which include Trangia...what used to be called picnic stoves and the Swedish Army type which are all meths burners. They are ok if you're in no hurry. They produce an awful lot of carbon which make quite a mess of your pans. The only way to avoid this is to add water to the meths which make them even slower due to the reduced heat of the burner...I've found that multi fuel stoves are the best bet. They run on almost any combustible fuel which means they are very cost effective and produce a tremendous amount of heat. Coleman are the leaders in these types but if you want an ultra light multi fuel stove Primus and MSR are your best bet..a touch on the expensive side though.

Hope this helps someone.

Dozy does that price include a burner?? cos I'm thinking pan set only here for that price...and the thread seems to have gone down the stove route...If it is for the burner as well that's a good bargain you have there!!! Last time I looked at burner prices the were at least £50

Hi I used one of these when I walked the Pembroke coast path (180 miles) when I was 14. Me and my mate did the walk in two weeks and carried everything we needed and the Trangia was great. Ok not as fast as a gas burner but we loved ours back then (1982.

I have just ordered one. We already have two sets and thought at £23.00 inc pp it would come in handy for when we have the family along with us this year. Thanks for the alert Dozy.
Definately a bargain. Before you buy though it is worth noting that:
The 27 series are realy small. No good if there are more than 2 of you.
It is not non-stick therefore can be quite difficult to clean.
The 25-6 (Bigger non stick plus kettle) was the one I opted for but I did pay about £50 for it.
As for performance - forget it. As said above, it can take over 10 minutes to boil the kettle, although the wait/anticipation does make that first cuppa that bit more satisfying.
so glad someone has taken advantage - that's a brilliant offer! I was extremely tempted and my OH said to get one as a backup to ours - except it's ancient and has shown signs of lasting forever so no backup needed! I've managed to cook for 6 people with my 27 using the billy can I treated it to and I've got a larger non-Trangia kettle for the extra cuppa capacity that gets carried separately. Mine ain't non-stick and we manage (it is hard to clean some things off) but it's worth getting the non-stick frying pan.
Gas is definitely quicker but I go to a lot of festivals and most of the biggies have banned the use of gas in any way shape or form so it's hexi cookers, disposable BBQs or Trangias - no competition for me!
