Hello,

Just got our first tent, but not used it yet.

As we're not 100% sure if we'll like camping, we wanted to try a basic weekend first.

However, we'll need sleeping bags etc.

Vango ones look pretty good.  They also do small sizes for the kids (5 & 3).  Coleman also look good too.

Any recommendations ?

Hiya gilesme,

If your only having a trial why not just take quilts to start with . That way if you don't like it you haven't wasted money, but i'm sure you'll catch the bug. Any way camping shops are coming up to there quietist time of year so sales are near so my advice is wait for a bargin !!!!

Hi gilesme, Invest in good airbeds first and take sheets and duvets for your first time. Plus a layer of a blanket or something for underneath the beds. Helps to stop the cold.

Hi Gilesme, and welcome to the site.

Don't know anything about the quality of Vango Sleeping Bags, only that they are a good make.  However before you spalsh out on kids sizes, give a thought to how long they are going to last.

Mine (6&3) use adult ones - zipped as a double, which means if they need cuddles in the night, I can lie down beside them and not freeze.

I know this weekend I'm packing a couple of Hot Water Bottles to warm the bags up before we retire for the night.

Hope you love camping as mcuh as we do.

Last year we bought an all in one deal from our local camping shop to see i fwe liked it - always sell the stuff at not too great a loss if we, especially the kids, didn't and we love it.  Totally addicted.  My little girl, 3, would go camping every day, and likes nothing better than when we sleep in the tent in the garden (other than the real thing that is).

Happu camping

Bernie

If you go at this time of year its gonna be cold at night.  Once it gets dark the temp drops like a stone.  Make sure you have plenty of warm clothing and hot water bottles.  We put a single quilt on top of our airbed but under the sheet even in summer.  We havent been cold in bed yet but we have sat miserable and cold in our tent vowing never to camp again in weather less than perfect.

Dont get me wrong here.  We love camping but for us the pleasure is being able to sit around comfortable and not have every stitch of clothing on trying to keep warm.  You might be lucky but at this time of year the chances of a cold night are very high.  They have even been forcasting ground frost!!!!!

We have the junior sleeping bag that Argos sell this combined with a fleecy sleepsuit keeps Lois nice and warm.  It was cheap too I think about £14.
