If your sticking to UK camping I would go for the BP GasLite 5kg (grp) cylinder, if you get one from Homebase they will chuck in the regulator for free, neat cylinder as it has a transparent window so you can see how much Gas is left, and as the name sujests it don't weigh much, only downside is you have to pay a hefty deposit for the cylinder, they are a lot lighter than a regular steel Calor bottle, also will soon become available in most of Europe according to thier blurb, other than that CalorLite 5kg would be a good choice and is a light Aluminium cylinder, and would be cheaper set up, as you can swap for and old steel Calor cylider, but you won't find refills in France etc, if wieght is not an issue then just go for a regular 5kg steel cylinder, if you planning to go to France, then CampinGaz 907 would be the best, although refills are around 3 times the price of BP/Calor, and the cylinder only holds 2.8kg, we take two 907's with us to France, that way we never run out of Gas. hope that helps.

Some good advice above, but check the size of your gas box (assuming you've got one) before proceeding! Many won't take the 5kg or larger bottles.
Basically IMHO the options are...
If you want to camp in cold weather you'll need Propane (typically red/orange bottles) otherwise Butane (blue bottles) is fine.
If you want to go to Europe Camping Gaz is the only real choice, but note this is Butane. Otherwise it is an exepnsive option, although the bottles are easier to store (which is why I still use it for the odd bit of tent camping).
If your gas locker is quite small the only real choice is Calor in 3.9kg propane or 4.5kg butane. This is readily available, including at many camp sites. It's what I use as it's all I can get into the locker on my camper.
After that you've got a lot more choice. Unless you can be sure of having enough gas with you I would stick to the readily availabel brands, Calor or BP basically. Calor is still the easiest to get, but most Homebase stores and many BP garages stock the latter. The lightweight BP (5kg Propane) or CalorLite (6kg Propane) are a reasonable idea, especially if you have too much noseweight!
