Just thought it would be a good idea to post this on here so no body else gets caught as I have.

Winfilelds in Rossendale are listing Outwell Polycotton windscreens on Ebay for £39.99 buy it now item number 170455384138. I obviously purchased one at that price and a week later I have just received a windscreen, a standard windscreen not a polycotton one.

I found their telephone number after sending a message via Ebay and called them, their response was flippant and blamed Outwell as this is what they have been supplied and tried to tell me that they do not know the difference between the standard type and a polycotton one !!

"Why state in your listing polycotton then" I asked, "Because thats what they are it says so on the Outwell web site"

Now I have had enough of Ebay and false listings so I have contacted Trading Standards and they are looking into the case as it is a criminal offence to fraudulently list details of an item that are not as supplied .

So if you want a polycotton windscreen DONT go to Winfields, you will pay more for a standard one with the postage than you could buy one for at any camping store.

I will keep you all informed.

So, the $64,000 dollar question, are they giving you your money back or not? The item in question is no longer listed, they've said that their supplier made a mistake, so if they refund your money, that's about as much as you can expect. This is the drawback with mail order shopping, if a mistake is made you can't just go back to the shop. Why Trading Standards need to be involved, I don't know. Unless, of course, they refused to give you your money back.

We've used them alot and not had a problem - even got our Columbia from them last year.

Wouldn't distance selling rules cover this situation? You should be able to get your money back as it was their mis-description, even if it was a cut and paste job from Outwell's site.

I am sure there are a hundreds of satisfied customers out there but my experience so far has been appalling.

They have finally accepted that they have made a mistake in the listing details and now acknowledge the fact that the windscreen I have is in fact polyester and not polycotton. Their argument was based on the fact that because it said on the Outwell web site polycotton then it was polycotton, the fact that they have used the wrong description was immaterial, up until repeated emails back and forth and me pointing out their mistake, but they have now agreed that they are wrong and have in fact supplied the incorrect item relating to their listing.

I have been offered a refund and I have accepted but this is now turning into a drama! They do not accept cheques so I sent cash as I do not use pay pal, they will not, understandably, post out the item until they have cleared funds in hand, fine but I have now got to return the item prior to receiving my refund in cleared funds and I have to accept a cheque which I am now arguing with them as to whom I wish it to be made payable too.

I may well be taking this to heart but it all just seems a bit one sided to me and for such a large organisation their on line customer service needs seriously looking into in my opinion.

Sorry that its proving a bit of a nightmare! We have a similar issue with a conservatory company at the moment over leaks...

Sometimes these companies just let themselves down, but they ultimately lose out as a result.

Good luck!

Well after god knows how many emails back and forth I have finally got a satisfactory refund. However, the attitude within their final email leaves me in no doubt that I will never grace their business ever again.

TIP: when buying online, NEVER send cash through the post! PayPal has worked fine for me for years and an alternative is a credit card as the card company can refund you if all else fails. You can open a dispute through Ebay's Resolution Centre, but this can take a while. PayPal disputes are often settled quicker in my experience. I haven't used cheques for years now and I think they're somewhat quaint and outdated. The same as when companies say 'allow 28 ndays for delivery' - WHY 28 DAYS??!! You order the thing online, pay via a card, they package the thing within 48hrs if it's in stock and you get it a day or so later. The "allow 28 days" thing might have worked in 1980, but it's 2010, for Christ's sake! some of these companies are stuck in the past. They're a Timex watch in a digital age...
Sorry you had so many problems. Hope you get sorted soon!
