just wanted to let other parents know that there is such a thing!

we found it today in our local camping store and apparantly they are new out in the last year.

not cheap at nearly £40 but worth it as it is well made and very stable, we tried it out with our large 2.5 year old and he was not amused! he couldnt escape and had plenty of growing room.

we wouldnt have got it if we didnt have ds 2 on the way as its only going to last ds1 this season but will do another 3 years for ds2.

they are made by kampa and fold in half so not exactly compact but much better than everything else we have tried in the last 2 years.

That seems really sturdy and at £40 it would be a bargain if you got some use out of it at home too.

for that price i would use the first one we had http://www.mothercare.com/Cosatto-Move-highchair-Fruits-Forest/dp/B0030SQL5W/sr=1-23/qid=1269205733/ref=sr_1_23/276-0116293-2710067?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42862041&mcb=core

this folds really small and slips behind the car seats. used all the time at home.

and what we have moved on to is even better (imo) http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00069725

this one has removable legs, and is dishwasher proof, can be packed amongst the clothes !! and is DEFINATELY worth the price!!!

thanks tina,

unfortunatly a normal size highchair wont fit in our caravan, we have tried various different ones that belong to friends and they wont fit in, or are very tight and risk rubbing against the bench seats.

the best we could do was a booster seat balanced on one of the benches , but as soon as ds was done he would just flip over and crawl off with chair attached!

this one could definatly be used at home as well, in fact nanny and grandad have their eye on it for when we are not away.

ooops...sorry didnt realise you were in a 'van!

in that case it is fab! lol!!!

i think the ikea one and the mothercare one both take up the same amount of ground room! but are perfect for us in the tent.

The Ikea one (with optional tray) was what I had when Princess was small. Very, very stable, sat at almost the same height as our camping table and packed away very easily into a really small space. And you could wash it under the tap. We ended up using it at home as well and got rid of the fancy high chair.

The best one we found (and continue to use at present) is the one from ikea here > http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00069725

this is just the highchair but you can get the tray for about £5 as well. The legs detach so it all goes down to a reasonable size. About £15 in total.

It's a shame the Ikea chair won't work for you - they really are fab.

We bought one to try out with our first daughter, half expecting to have to replace it with a more expensive one in time - we ended up loving it!  It is now on child # 3 and is pretty much still like new.

What I had when we first started camping was a table which attached to the buggy.   Although Alice could sit at tbe normal table, it was handy for when I wanted her confined.   It has the added advantage of being able to be taken elsewhere with us.
