Excellent quality aside, I have a problem with after sales. We posted off our faulty lantern a month ago and email after email goes without reply.
I need to talk to someone there to find out what has happened to our lantern. I had asked if they would refund the £6 postage charge aswell. ATM I have no lamp and lost £6 plus lantern cost.
I can only assume the person I am sending the email to is not there anymore. They seemed helpfull at first so I think there must be a hitch somewhere in their communications.
Well I got in touch with them. Seems some changes have happened and they are up to there eye's in work. Our lamp hadn't been looked at so they agreed to send a new one out to us right away.
They also gave us two spare tubes for the lamp to compensate for P&P pauid by us, as they can not refund the amount paid. Note: They should always send a courier to pick it up, the original person who delt with us should not have asked us to post it.
I would have been a bit miffed had it been in season though. Should be here soon, so we should be sorted for a lamp next season. Don't be put off as these are excelent quality lamps.
I have one of these lamps and the first use (in anger so to speak) was at Brynich and the remote didnt work!! Got the email address from this thread and ended up with a reply next day from Georgina who within 2 days has arranged pick up from wifes work place to exchange the said item in order to match the new remote with the lamp (matched at factory by all accounts !). Anyway I think this is excelent service from them.
P.S. I did drop the hint about UK camp site and postings and reputation etc.....
After all the recommendations on this sit, I also bought this lamp of UKCampsite.co.uk which arrived yesterday. Thought we'd test it and it was very bright, worked for about 2 hours and switched itself off. Charged it overnight and now the light doesn't work at all. The red light goes on when we plug it in to the mains for charging, but never turned green even when left on overnight. Checked all the battery and bulb connections and they seem fine. We are leaving for camping on monday so have no chance of a replacement for our trip - pretty miffed but thats life huh.
Two questions.
Has anyone else had a problem with this lamp not turning on at all after a decent charge?
Where can we get the replacement bulbs - we need to get one by monday (I'm thinking that the bulb is damaged in transit possibly?
I have also had mixed service from these people. They are always very friendly and helpful when I phone, but I get the impression that behind the scenes the place is chaotic!
i) they lost my first order for a lantern, made via this site. When I phoned 10 days or so later, they put it right straight away and got one to me within 24 hours, BUT
ii) It came with a continental plug, not a UK one, so I couldn't charge it. I phoned and they sent me a new one the next day, BUT
iii) I have the same charging problem as CraigC in that the red light never goes out to tell you its fully charged.
I've phoned and discussed this with them. To start with they said it didn't matter and I shouldn't worry because it would still charge OK (& it does seem to). I had to insist on having one that works properly. I'm not going to change it next month as it's in use till then.
Think I might turn up on their doorstep to do this rather than do it by post, though.
No it was Nightsearcher themselves, who said they'd got the order but hadn't processed it - something to do with the girl who processes the online orders being away. As I say, when I enquired they put it right straight away and got one to me. Their phone no (from their website) is 01243 370222.
There is a "click through" link from this site somewhere (which I can't find now), which was how I ordered it. It entitles you to some discount on the lamp.
Despite problems, I think its a good lamp - or will be when I get one that's working completely properly!
