Hi there,

We're upgrading to a 3-way fridge this summer and been looking at the latest Dometic offering.  On our travels, we notice our local dealer stocks the Quest 45 litre 3-way, when priced against the Dometic is a least £200 cheaper and 4 litres larger!

My only concern is that it shows as being 'virtually noiseless'.  Does anyone know if this is the case?  The Dometic is a noiseless operation (RC1700 EGP) but I'd be interested in learning about the peformance of the Quest.

Thanks in advance - Marie

Electrolux/Dometic have always used Abosorption Technology system of cooling which as you say is silent in operation, as explained here http://dometic.com/enuk/Europe/United-Kingdom/Absorption-Technology/. What you would need to establish is whether the alternative uses the same system. From this website here http://www.outdoorworld.co.uk/quest-45-litre-3-way-coolbox-p-3555.html it suggests the Quest does use the same technology. Perhaps Quest are just reluctant to say silent running?

An absorbtion fridge, which is what a 3way fridge is, will gurgle ocassionally but apart from that its silent.

Be aware that the Dometic will be a little more powerful. Absorbtion fridges chill the food up to a certain number of degrees below ambient temperature. The Quest manages 25 degrees Celsius below ambient; so if it's a hot day (32 degrees) then the food in the fridge will be 7 celsius at best - too warm for safety. The Dometic chills up to 30 degrees below Ambient; so on the same hot day the food will be at 2 degrees - safe!

Thanks, we usually camp in the UK early/late season to avoid the peak etc, so I think the temperature won't be an issue - sadly!
