Cant comment on the Sungass one but the Campingaz double has done us well for the last 3 or 4 years. No complaints except the grill is not all that fantastic.

I've had a SunnGas for several years now. No complaints at all.

TBH though most of these double burner gas cookers are much of a muchness when it comes to actually cooking on them. The features vary slightly though so think about...

1) Grill? Most of these grills are small and pretty useless. Models without a grill are much cheaper and more compact to pack.

2) Integral windshield? A good three sided windshield will reduce the amount of gas used and speed up cooking times. Yes you can have one on the kitchen unit instead but an integral one fits better and is more compact.

3) Lid? Very useful while packing...stops grease getting everywhere.

4) Coupling to gas hose? You can get push fit fittings or  couplings that unscrew. The second are much more user friendly, especially when your hands are cold and wet.

There are other less important features such as toast racks, carry bags, optional griddle plates, high legs etc. You pays your money etc etc. But the above four are the more important ones to think about.

Oh, most stoves will run on both butane and propane gas, as long as you purchase the appropriate regulator for your chosen type of gas.

Hi. We've used a Sunngas one for a number of years and, subject to what Val said above, we've had no problems with it at all. Ours is a very basic model with no lid or windshield but we have protection on our cooker stand. We made a bag to carry it in as the cardboard box soon fell apart.

Oh . . . one big difference is that ours isn't actually badged Sunngas but something totally different - and it came from Aldi at half the price of the same ones in camping shops.

Pete

How about the Campingaz camping kitchen extra - its the double burner with a removable griddle with water tray for easy cleaning (a BBQ/ cooked breakfast option), side windshields that double as side-shelves; removable, adjustable legs with large shelf; and fabric storage cupboard that doubles as a storage bag for everything else. Very well designed, robust, sturdy and avoids the need for a camp kitchen. You can't buy the accessories as separates so if you think you may want them you have to buy the set. Shopping around we got ours last year for less than £50 - a bargain for what its got! We use the Gelert single slice folding toaster that goes over a burner for even toast in seconds ( faster than your toaster at home - a real party trick!). Use the stove without legs for low level camping, with legs and shelf for weekends and with legs, shelf and storage cupboard for longer stays.

Excellent!

Helen

I'd echo a lot of what's been said...although I suppose it does depend on what "kit" you've got already(..there's little point in buying a stove, with legs and windshileds etc,if you've already got an all singing and dancing camp kitchen/table set up for instance...).

However,if you're starting from scratch,it maybe worth thinking of how things are likely to "develope",kit wise..because as Helen says,it may be worth getting the full set up from the off?!?

We went down the single, flat stove route...which was fine for a while, then we got a second...and then a camp kitchen...followed by  third stove..

With hindsight,we would've been far better, just getting the full set up to start with!

Just as a side issue..

If you end up getting a stove which doesn't come with a griddle plate,we bought one a couple of years back(somewhere like Wilkos?)for about a fiver, approx 18x12,with one smooth side, one ridged..We use it on our stove and even on the bbq..it's great for cheese & ham toasties!

Oh! and sorry about the double posting earlier..

Hindsight, a wonderful thing! I think part of the issue is that you need to go camping a while to work out how it is going to work for you and what will suit you. We started out with a double gas burner with grill, lid, windshield and gas bottle .... but after a while sussed out that what would suit us better would be the suitcase stoves run off canisters. Sold the full monty cooking set up and haven't regretted it for a nano-second ever.
