hi.

can anyone help me with advice on a cooler/fridge? we have only ever used an ordinary old coolbox before, and would like to upgrade as we have ehu now. i don't know whether to buy a waeco mobicool or a halford electric coldbox - both are about £50. or whether to go for the new waeco tropicool tc21 which gets to 30 degrees below ambient. i am told the thermo electric coolers are very noisy (its bad enough listening to other folks snoring without addind a fridge in to the equation!) does anyone have any advise for me. we usually camp in cornwall / devon but have plans to venture abroad next year, should i be looking at the more expensive and seemingly huge outside/tiny inside cf compressor things? please help i am getting in an awful muddle!!!

thank you sarah

Hi Sarah.

We took a Waeco CF25 to the Southern Ardeche last July, and planned to hire a regular fridge on site, as it turned out the capacity of the Waeco was ample, so we did not need to hire a fridge, with the CF range you are guaranteed cooling down as low as -18deg C! if needed, whatever the ambient temp is, although the Tropicool will go to 30deg below ambient, that may not be enough when the temps get to +40Deg C, which it can in Southern Europe, we find the CF25 takes up little room in our Golf, and we used it as a in car fridge for the 1000mile journey, handy for when you pull over for a stop, to make a bite to eat etc. CF units only make a sound when the compressor kicks in, they are deadly quiet and you don't notice it running, in fact we had more noise from rustling trees and a babbling river, but after a few glugs of red wine, we didn't even notice that either!.

Andy.

hi andy

thank you so much for your reply - i had already read your helpful advice to other campers re fridges, was the cf25 very very expensive though? they seem to be about £300 - £400 online? do you think it is worth the extra money? and have you ever had a cheapy thermoelectric coolbox? what i don't want to do is spend £70 on a cheap one then end up spending another £400 on a better one!!

by the way that ardeche campsite looks lovely have you been there before? (though i think something was lost in translation with midget golf!!!)

i ilke the look of this one http://www.campinglesormes.com

thanks sarah

Hi Sarah.

It will be our second visit to "Domaine de Gil" this year, although we are desparate to find somewhere a little cheaper, as it is a bit of an indulgence for just the two of of us, but it is a very nice and very secure site.

As for the Waeco CF25, we were looking to buy a Waeco CAB40 (Grey), but just by chance the CF25 was spotted on PreLoved still in the box and sealed having never been used, the original owner was selling up caravan and all due to ill health, having just bought all the kit, real shame but we got the CF25 for £150, which was a bargain, on reflection the CAB40 would have been way to big in anycase, would I pay £400 for a CF25 no way, you can find them on Ebay at god prices, there is a specialist on there which offers all the models at good price, did see a CF25 on there once for £250, we got the Thermal Jacket and mains/24v power supply of the Ebay firm at well below retail prices. hope that helps.
