We are hoping to take our 6 mth old baby camping this summer. I was wondering anyone can recommend any equipment that might be useful for camping with such a young one. Also how would you recommend sleeping as i know airbeds aren't supposed to be safe.

Really excited about getting him in his first tent!

Thanks hxx

When my 13 year old was a baby I just used his travel cot/playpen which was perfect, if not a bit bulky for the car. Now you can get light weight camping travel cots and camping high chairs but you can probably feed your baby in the pushchair instead.

Hi, we took our 11 week old daughter away with us camping in september and are due to take her away again with us in 3 weeks time - shes 10 months old already!!  We have an estate car with a trailer, but the dog, our 3 year of daughter and all our camping kit leaves little space for the baby and her stuff!

My advice would be to think of the things that can double up, eg: We'll take the travel cot (with loads of blankets underneath) for baby to sleep in, but it will also double up as a playpen in the day. Overnight, i'll dress her in a gro-bag with a fleecy jacket over the top, just to keep her arms warm. We'll only take toys that both kids can play with, so we can take less of them.

If your baby is weaned, or being weaned, I would definately make space for a high chair - i cant get Bo to eat anything whilst shes sitting on my lap!

Last thing i would say is, choose the right campsite - whilst we've got little ones, we tend to go to small quiet sites which have really good facilities - showers / family bathrooms, kitchens - the microwave at Home Farm, Bircher, was a godsend when i needed to sterilise bottles.

Hope you all enjoy your camping adventure!!

We took ours in travel cots wearing fleece all in one suits at night.  The other thing we found very useful was a make shift baby bath.  The family bathrooms are always packed so we had one of those flexible buckets with handles (from garden centres or wilkos) it was easy to transport water because of the handles and it kept some sort of bedtime routine. For mealtimes we used reins and a folding chair (not a deck chair type I think that would tip) but the other style sort of dip in the middle.

My son still had the travel cot when he was 18mths old.  We also had a Gelert childrens gazebo which we would peg out in front of the tent and lay blankets down - it was great because he could play sheltered from the sun he would also nap in it occasionally too.

I only paid about £9 for mine though
