Just bought a spare battery so that we have extra power when on a rally - I don't want to buy a 12v TV, is there a way of attaching the TV to the 12 v cigarette lighter in the caravan?

Surely you would need an inverter to convert 12v to 230v?

inverters above 200w need to clip direct to battery below this plug direct into lighter socket.although alot of sockets are rated at 150w.tellys are normally low wattage check yours on back.

Can the invertor be permanently attached to the battery or should you only use the crocodile clips?

no reason not to wire to battery exept they tend to have a built in fan so as long as you get one with a off switch so not running when not in use.

I do a few rallies and have a spare battery in the boot of my car connected to an inverter (1000w). I plug my hook up lead into the car so its just like being on a site and all the sockets in the van become live. The OH and daughters can use hairdryers and straighteners as well.

When you go out for the day the battery in the boot gets charged up from a split charge relay. It is a good clean solution as apposed to a generator.

150w thru a cig lighter will probably run for 2 hours and then cut out because of over-heating.

If you are going to run an inverter, do the job properly and hard wire it in; it's very much safer. Also remember that you are now playing around with 230vAC and that can kill you so be careful
