I read a post some weeks ago about some cook in bags that I think were made by bacofoil, (the ones you can boil, roast, microwave etc in) one of you lovely campers had listed them as a great find ? saves on the pans and washing up I think
So are they any good
I have searched high and low ( on supermarkert shelves) to no avail..
I've just bought some more this afternoon from Tesco - Baco Cook-in Bags.
About £1.80 for 8. They are great for camping. You can cook several things in one pot - not fatty things though. They come with removable ties. We also use them at home to cook tomatoes without them going to mush in water.
I have used the Betterware ones which are pretty much the same. They are excellent. I even use the bags for marinating then just bung in the oven, so easy.
------------- If you see a family struggling to put up the tent then it must be us!
What do you all cook in them? Are they for cooking veg? I take it you can cook meat in them as well, but roasting not boiling! I've never heard of these!
We cook tomatoes (we use them at home for this), vedge, baked beans, fish, and meat in a sauce. Basically, as the bags are water-tight, the contents heat up separate from the water, which means that foods don't mix and you can cook products that you wouldn't otherwise cook in a saucepan of boiling water. We don't have a mechanism for roasting when camping, so haven't tried using them for this...
Might try these, especially for poaching things in sauce.
A few years ago someone introduced me to cooking bags you can put on the BBQ and though I laughed at them at first, I'm now a total convert and use them for fish and veggies. There's just something about not having yet another pot to wash out, no?
Thats why I wanted to get these, it also means that i may not need as many pots, if i can cook more than one element of a meal in the same pan
i had a portion of spag bol for the OH, to heat up last night, so i tried the cook in bag, had to make sure the contents was shaken about to ensure heat got through,
it took the same amount of time as traditional poaching of some cod, boiling some rice and peas
so not a bad experience, but i did spend most of the time watching the bag and pan, but to be fair i have to do that more when we camp anyway with our stove being small
will try veggies at the weekend and see if i get a good result too
