We have the Handiholdall on standard roofbars. Can't use the Handirack as the car has side curtain airbags. All the light and bulky stuff (sleeping bag, duvet, pillows, inner tents, carpet, towels etc.) goes in it for the trips to and from the campsite and the bag rolls up and lives in the boot for the rest of the trip.
As clunty mentioned, It's not totally waterproof (I suspect it's just the zip as the canvas looks pretty substantial to me, although I haven't had to use it in the rain yet). We keep some large bin bags just in case.
Overall, very happy with it.
