Can anyone tell me anything about Solar Panels. What watts you need, how much charge will be put into the battery, how you connect them etc. We have been looking at this one -

I have a topray 13 amp panel, its very similar to the one you are looking at.  I left mine connected over winter in the front window, and the battery is still fully charged. Of course, when you are running things off your battery, you will be taking more out than the panel is putting in, but every little helps. I think, maybe that if you have an alarm fitted, this would be a big help if you van is in winter storage. Les.

It all depends what you want to run, you really need to do the maths, On our old motorhome (before we sold it) we had 50 watts of solarpanels and this was just enough in summer if we were careful to not need hookup, but we are not big tv watchers and we had led lights for reading etc.

Watts / volts = amps

The example given in the post above I would expect is wrong to get a 13 amp panel you need over 150 watts which is 2 or 3 large solar panels, 13 watts / 12 volts = 1.08 amps, I expect it was a 13 watt panel which will only provide a trickle charge of under 1.5 amps at the very best with bright sun. Your normal caravan charger would be about of 10 amps but some are better some are worse.
