As my camping gear has grown obviously so has the weight I want to carry. I have looked at the car manual and am not sure how to work out how much I can put in the boot. I know there is some kind expert out there who can help me. The manual gives the following details:

Kerb weight -  Total  1215, front 710, back 500

Maximum permissible axle weight  - front 1015, rear 1055

Maximum permissible load on roof rack  - 80

Permissible nose weight - 75

Allowing that people weight would be appox 160 in the front, 90 in the back and the roof box will probably be about 40, what weight can I safely carry in the boot.

I would have guessed at somewhere around 350-400kg for the boot.

That's based on max rear axle (1055) - kerb weight (500) - passengers ((90+160)/2 to split load over both axles) - trailer if used (75) = 355kg

I wouldn't argue against just using the weight of the rear passengers, it won't make a lot of difference, I'm not sure you would be able to get 350kg in the back of most cars anyway unless you were really trying

as saftlad says you would really have to go some to overload boot of car.really carn't image what you could take inorder to get above your load limit.anvil?ancor?

No, I don't have a trailer. 300 - 400kg sounds good.

The only time I've come close to overloading the rear of a car was with a Range Rover complete gear box assembly in a Vauxhall Omega estate! Good job it had self levellers fitted.

Serioulsy, with camping kit it is very unlikey you'll have a problem.
