The "980" is the distance from the ground, along the awning rail and back to the ground (in centimetres), so a regular type awning would need to be this size (give or take 5cm or so).

I think the new breed of ultima/bus shelter type porches are very forgiving with size and easier to put up.

If you want to make a canvas type traditional awning - which is smaller than your awning rail size - into a porch awning, I'm sure you can get a conversion kit (think rear pads and legs). I'm sure that Isabella does them, but they are probably a bit pricey. There was one advertised for sale on Preloved a few weeks back.

Dawn.  If you want a full awning then it needs to fit the size of your van, so if it's a 980 you need, then it's a 980 you must get.  If you have a full awning, the awning fits all around the awning rail and therefor an 800 would be too short.

If you buy a porch awning, then only the roof bit fits on the awning rail, but when looking at porch awnings you need to make sure that the caravan has a straight bit of awning rail that can accommodate the whole of the length of the roof, so you need to measure the straight bit only.  If the roof section of the porch/lightweight awning you want is smaller than the straight bit, then it will fit. If the roof section of the porch/lightweight awning you want is larger/bigger than the straight bit, then it won't fit.

You can get awnings converted, but I think you would need to speak to someone who could do this for you.  After saying that, I would take a good look around to see if there is a porch awning that matches up to the expectations of the full awning you have seen.  I I wanted a porch awning then I would go for a porch awning rather than a conversion.

Hope this might be of some help.

We converted a 14 foot awning to a large porch awning as we didn't want a full awning on our van Bailey Indiana, it fits between a treat, we measured from the ground up to the awning rail where we wanted the awning to fit. I got the instructions from Isabella.

Hope this helps   Karen
