Hi all

Have just arrived back from a very cold few days camping!

On getting back we have decided we all need some decent sleeping bags. I have 2 young kids and we will need 2 for us adults. I would like to sleep in the same bag as my hubby lol But if i cant find a large sleeping bag we will have to have single ones haha

can anyone advise me on what i'm looking for or reccommend some good quality ones.

Many thanks

Jo :-)

Hi we have a Coleman Hampton double sleeping bag which is really warm - I made a fleece liner for ours & we were toasty in it in April - I find it quite roomy.  Did you insulate your airbeds with picnic blankets underneath & fleecy blanket or mattress topper above?  We also have large cheapy fleecy throw for ours from B&M which we throw over if really cold.  We are going away at the weekend & won't need the fleece liner for ours as bag is fine on its own with just the option of the throw at this time of year.

The kids have brushed cotton lined warm sleeping bags and also have fleece liners with character fleeces from B&M which go on top - they have never been cold yet.  My daughter's is by Boden and my son's is a Vango & probably arent the warmest on the market but are a good combination with the liner as without the liner they aren't too warm in Summer abroad either.  A lot of people on here rank Vango nitestars as really good for kids.

This is the Coleman Hudson which is similar to Hampton but on offer at the mo at Amazon

We have the Coleman Hudson double - it is very warm! We've just returned from a tour in Scotland where we encountered very strong winds and some very cold evenings/nights (around 3 degrees).
I found I was cold until I got into our Hudson - it was too warm sometimes but having a zip down both sides means you and/or your OH can uncover yourself to cool down.

We personally think the sleeping bag was our best purchase (paid £30 from Sports Direct store, half price).

For info we have a self-inflating mat with a fleece underneath and one on top and then the sleeping bag.

Happy purchasing.

Friend shave the Hudson (I think) and really like them.

My wife has an Outwell camper Lux which is large and warm - she is a cold sleeper and has never been cold. Bulky packed though, but so will any other similar sleepign bag.

rtather than doubel bag as such , I'd zip two singles together (though we use seperate bags)

Youngest kid (6) sleeps in a Vango Nitestar Midi, eldest (9) sleeps in a Snugpak Lapnoie 350 (adult bag) Both seem to always be snug and warm.

I had a similar post last month and asked LOADS of questions. I have now for the kids settled on the new outwell flowies sleeping bags (girls 5yrs and 2 yrs). They are brilliant very soft, very warm, the zip stays shut but does open completely into duvet type thing (which the old style mummy ones don't).

TAKE NOTE: loads of places selling 1/2 price at £9.99 at the mo' as outwell having a family promotion thing.

Look for the comfort temperature on the sleeping bag. It's the only remotely reliable way of comparing warmth. As a very, very rough guide:

3-season: -2*C
2-3 season: 2-3*C
2-season: 5-10*C

If you camp spring & autumn, or really feel the cold, aim for 3-season bags and don't forget that no sleeping bag provides much insulation under you because you crush the filling. So insulating yourself from ground or cold air in an airbed is important.
