^^^ It took me a while to work out it was a double burner model as well. I think I just assumed it was because I've only just got mine & I'm so obsessed with it (like a child with a new toy)

Thanks for the input re; the pumping, that's much as I had thought/hoped.
I've ordered a new pump part as a spare (this item) Can anyone tell me if I've bought the right bit? If the pump handle doesn't fit I'm sure the washer/cup will, right?
It's from a shop in Sussex anyway, I'm down there visiting family & testing all my new equipment ready for France in July, so I'm sure I could talk them into an exchange or something.

Nutgone

The part you have bought is designed for a range of single burner stoves, but could fit others.

Anyway, the only "wearing" part is the cup washer, which is the black ring at the very top left of the photo on your link. I'm pretty sure that the cup washer is standard across the entire Coleman range, so it will probably fit your double burner. However, before you rip the packaging to shreds with excitement, maybe you could swap your pump for a simple washer kit, which will be cheaper, and you might not need for ages anyway.

Z

btw - I'm fascinated by your profile location. You must have a huge house if it stretches from Bristol all the way to East Sussex. I'm glad I don't have your Council Tax bill !!

I'm also in love with your car. But, that's another story.

Right... is is a double burner.  It will pump it we don't cove the hole with our thumb but once hole is covered it won't pump (even when pressure has been released.)

The 'pumper' is stuck outward and will only depress inward a tiny bit, if that makes sense.

It sounds like the valve has jambed. I don't have any experience of this, but I think it would be worth while unscrewing the fitting and having a look. Nothing much to loose is there, and you will have to strip it down to fit the new assembly when it arrives.

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

This item that I mentioned above, does indeed fit the coleman 424 double burner stove. It's a full pump handle with cup washer etc etc (as pictured) & very good value. I have heard people say they have broken theirs before, so I'm glad I got it instead of just getting the washer kit.
The generator I bought doesn't fit, it's for a 414, so I'm looking in to a return, or relist.

dib-dib-dib, have you unscrewed the pump handle a full turn before pumping? It sounds like it's seizing up somehow, maybe the shaft has become bent? You could try getting the part I just got (link at the beginning of this message). I really hope you sort this out tho.

Zorro01, I live in Bristol, but come from, have most of my family in, & quite often visit, East Sussex.
My car has now come up a few times on this site, it's a 1973 BMW 2002 touring (hatchback). I haven't had it long, I like my old Beemers & am currently having difficulty selling my 1985 525e, mainly to fund the '02 & also because I can't afford to keep them both . The 2002 will be coming to France with me in July, for my camping/touring/discovering myself & France trip, which will be blogged. I'm hoping it will help me start a few conversations & make some friends, & possibly even get me onto some otherwise unattainable campsites.
I will be taking plenty of pictures & promise to keep an accurate (as possible) blog of the whole trip. (I'm going on my own, I might add)

nutgone, don't tell Zorro01 where you'll be in France in July, a little bird tells me he'll be there at the same time. Visiting WWI battlefields in one thing drooling over old beemers is another lol. ( the second more likely to incur extra expense if my little bird knows her stuff )

We are sorted!!

Firstly I telephoned Outdoor World who I purchased it from and they agreed to pick it up and have a look at it.  I told DH and he got it all out to repack into the box.  Before packing it up he decided to give it one last go.

After me encouraging him to read this thread he realised he hadn't been unscrewing the knob ONE FULL TURN!

Once this was done it was burning fantastic with a proper roar!

Thanks for all your help but at the end of the day it was just user error

Good, I'm glad you got it sorted.
Just for the record, tell him it's not "user error" it was either "school-boy error" or "rookie mistake" take your pick.
