hi folks, we went away at weekend and discovered the awning we got with the van is a small porch one without any poles (only afer trying to put it up...) "I'm sure it should have poles, it just doesn't look right..."  lol

So looking for 2nd hand full awning for our old abi marauder 4 berth.  someone said it's about 800cm (size 7).  I should measure and check myself though..!

Question is - anyone fitted an awning that's a different size and what problems do you get?

I wouldn't try and fit a larger one, but has anyone fitted a smaller awning to their van?  Does it just end up not covering length of van (happy with that) or does it just not go up right?

also, does it matter what make I get, guess some are better than others.. any bad ones to avoid?

cheers, Andy.

PS anyone selling a size 6/7 awning?!

if you dont get the right size it wont fit at all. it'll either be too big and saggy, which will mean that the roof might droop and leak .

if its too short it wont reach the ground, so will be useless .

The bit where you say " Only covers part of the van" , its only a porch awning that would do that.
It will have different construction poles to a full awning and special pads that go against the van wall.

a full awning sits in the awning rail channel all around the edge of the caravan .

So getting the right size is crucial.

You measure from the ground, right around the rail, and down the ground the other side. This gives you the size in cms of the awning you need. you then buy the nearest size to that measurement.
Some people selling a secondhand awning might say for example :its fits a 14ft van, but there may be 2 or 3 sizes that would fit a 14 ft van , not neccesarily the same measurement as your van.(not saying yours is a 14ft van either , just using as an example) because vans come in different shapes.
One 14ft van might measure 30 or 40 cms more than another depending on the curve of the van.

there is a search facility on the isabella awning website that you can put the make, model and year of your van into , but you must have the correct details. Its best to measure for yourself as well to doublecheck it
