Hi folks,

Bit of a long one here.

I inherited a Campingaz stove and cylinder which must be at least 20 years old. The cylinder is similar to the R901/904/907 range although i cant find a reference on the cylinder.

The gas is running low and needs to be refilled before we go away next weekend.

Our patio gas for the barbecue is also empty and needs refilled.

Now, do i just get the Campingaz cylinder refilled? (assuming it's the same regulator with it being that old)

Or do i get the patio gas refilled and use that? Am i right in saying that the patio gas is propane and i would need a new regulator for my stove? Would there be any issues using propane with the Campingaz stove?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you could just take the old cylinder into a Campingaz stockist and get it exchanged for a full one.
However you could also use the patio gas, but as you stated, it is propane and you'd need a new regulator. The stove would work fine though!
Patio Gas is cheaper per kg, but the cylinder is larger and more difficult to manoeuvre!

I would get the patio gas refill , if you are needing a new one anyway . you already have a regulator on the bbq I assume ?

the patio gas will work out cheaper than the campingaz. There will be no problem using the patio gas on the stove.

If you prefer to get the campingaz, the regulator will be the same as what You buy today , I had a 20 year old stove and cylinder given to me 12 years ago and the bottle and regulator is the same as the current ones.

Dont discard the empty campingaz cylinder, they cost £45 for a new one(EMPTY), if you should ever choose to go back to campingaz

Get a new hose and jubilee clips for the stove though, they should be replaced every 2 or 3 years, (not expensive, around £3 or so, or take the one off the bbq.

Hi. Ho issues with using any gas for your stove as long as you have the correct regulator for the cylinder. The patio gas will probably a heck of a lot cheaper than the Camping Gaz ounce for ounce. However, I'm sure the other cylinder would be OK to exchange if you want to go the Camoing Gaz route. I've still got some old cylinders which must be at least that old and the threads on the cylinders are the same.
