Get a 5 litre bottle of water from any supermarket. Alot cheaper and re-usable and recyclable.

The 5 litre containers from supermarkets are much better. They are designed to store water for a long time and the material is specified to ensure it does that without imparting a taint/taste to the contents. The camping ones all tend to be polyethylene which will impart a taste to the water very quickly.

We usually buy squash in 5 litre bottles from Makro so we save the empies to take on holiday to use as water bottles. At the end of the stay we just dump the bottle. (Well, it has been re-cycled at least once as a water bottle!)

I prefer  mdeium sized container with a tap as the kids can get them selves a drink from it, and easier when it is full.

I don't like thecollapsible  ones as they seem to taint the water a bit, though I've got an Ortlieb water bag I use for cycling and that doesn't. I have a 10L plastic container with a tap that works fine

I also use a 5 litre water bottle from the supermarket, then recycle or bin it so that I have one less item to pack when I come home.

In order to conserve water I tend to drink wine or beer in the evenings instead of tea or coffee.

2-3litre cordial bottles for us, then the kids are able to fetch and carry water (honestly they like doing it)!

Another agreement for the 5 litre water bottle, friends had a collapsible water container, which just rolled about when full (which was then too heavy to carry) and tasted funny, other friends have a large water container with tap that you have to tip up and again very difficult to manage.

Best wishes Sam

We bought a 5 ltr mineral water after advice on here, however although it was excellent it was just a bit big for our needs so after it was empty it went for recycling.
We had 'SIGG' flask with us and just used that for our water. There is only 2 of us and 2 dogs and found the sigg was more than enough for filling the kettle, water for the dogs and sometimes for cooking. We refilled it twice a day and (because we were touring) each time before we left a site. It was much easier to handle, fill the kettle and being a sigg kept the water fresh and cold.

If you need a lot of water though I definitely recommend the 5 ltr bottles, if a little unwieldy to pour when full.

Various sizes of supermarket bottles, but mainly a six ltr size. It is now in its third season, although the blue plastic handle gave up at the start of last season, so it now has a short guy line round its neck. (stops it blowing away when empty)

One of my other best buys, is a combine plastic rectangular  5 ltr container that clips inside a same shape washing up bowl. So it only takes up the space of one item. Had it about twenty years now, may be longer. Never tasted of plastic, although most other plastic containers i've had over the years did.
