Was just wondering what you people recommend? We need a tent heater so that we can camp in the cooler weather too. We need a heater that can stay on all night (is that possible?) and is fine for both a smallish tent as well as a big one. I guess mainly for the nights so in the big one we'd like it kept in the sleeping area.
We have never ever used a heater or EHU in the 20+++ years we've been camping so this is all completely new to us. But due to the British Weather and growing children who need warmth - we have decided that we'd rather go the EHU route than give up camping all together.
WE just use a cheap Argos one with an automatic cutout if it falls over. Eeven in a big tent it's amazing how soon it warms up on a low setting. Would never need to take it into the sleeping pod, just leave the doors to the bedrooms open and you probably wouldn't need to leave it on all night unless exceptionally cold.
You can buy low voltage ones from Outwell if you prefer. We've never had a problem tripping the electrics with this and never had to have it turned up high even in the big tent.

We use 2 x Outwell fan heater M (circular shaped). These are electric and have 2 settings. We normally have 1 heater on setting 1, and the other on setting 2 plus we run a fridge and lights.
Our tent is very large, and these heaters are excellent. They have a trip facility in the bottom, which will turn them off if they get knocked over. They are thermostatically controlled and you can also run them as fans when the weather is hotter.
We were lovely and warm during the recent bank holiday down pour / gales. They cost about £30-40 each, but they are well worth the money.
Wongers, I'd agree with you re the silent running on that radiator, and we have one of those already but there's just never enough room for it in our boot.

We use a cheap fan heater with variable thermostatic control.
Only ever used it on 1Kw setting which is more than enough to heat our Khyam Ontario 8. We set it to a low heat setting at night and then let it click on and off as necessary. Personally I don't really notice the noise it makes (not that loud anyway) and find the low hum quite soothing!
we use a normal fan heater, ours was from Dumelm and when our heating broke at home British Gas gave us 2 x heaters which are the same! we like them because in the heat we can just use the fan option with no heat and it moves the air around.

Do you work for Dimplex? I am reluctant to buy a fan heater for camping as the ones I've owned are a little noisy, which I've always assumed means they will be even more noticeable in a tent when the campsite is quiet? If you work in the industry, can you recommend a quiet one?
We've used a halogen one for the last couple of years and as long as you're sensible and keep it on a flat surface, job done! We have left it on all night if its really cold, on low. God light source too and silent. It heats our 7 man tent no problem and doesn't take up much room in the car.
I use a ceramic fan heater with variable power, up to 2kW output, with thermostat and anti-tilt detection.
