My Electrolux RM4271 works fine on 230v but not on Gas. It will light ok but that's about it, Also the rear top vent where the flu protrudes has badly sooted up. I have left it running like this for approx 12hrs but the fridge doesn't get remotely cold. Any ideas?

All the best

Steve

Disconnect it from the gas, turn it upside down, leave it for some time (pref 12 hours or more) then turn it the right way up and try it.   It if doesn't work try turning it over again for a bit longer.

I don't entirely understand the science but it works on ours!

The other thing is to make sure that your fridge is entirely level.

Turning it upside down gets any airlocks out of the coolant but if its working ok on 230v thats not the problem. Try cleaning out the burner. You can access it without removing fridge by removing lower vent grille on outside of caravan.

Burner is at bottom right as you look at back of fridge, clean out with small artists' paintbrush & plenty of meths.

You will need to clean the chimney as well as the burner  (it should have a spiral deflector inside it - this slows the hot air inside the chimney and allows the heat to transfer to the workings more effectively). The symptons on mine were: poor starting, poor cooling and soot all over the vent grille. It turned out that a lump of carbon had fallen on and partially blocked the burner, this in turn caused the other problems, particularly the soot which resulted from the incomplete combustion. Take your time and try not to alter the position of any of the parts. If you are up to this it is best to remove the fridge (so you can do the upside down thing as well) and bench run it with a temporary gas supply (basically connect the hose to the copper pipe with a jubilee clip) - you are looking for - easy ignition, a small but strong and stable blue pilot flame and a noticeable increase/decrease in the size of the flame when you operate the control knob.

Mine went from barely working to achieving an internal temp of 1 degree in my very hot garage.

Obviously if you are not a competent person you will not attempt any work on the gas system!
