Hi

Can anyone help with advising on how to find the relevant TV transmitter and its settings i.e. Horizontal or Vertical etc for when on site?

Tend to follow the TV ariels on houses or others but sometimes we cannot get freeview to pick up anything at all?

Thanks

Is a good place to start. However terrestrial TV will never give 100% coverage, so consider satellite as well.

This site has all the info you need - direction, analogue or digital, Horizontal or vertical. Just type in the post code in Location under My Settings on the RHS. Then click on Received Signal Strength on the LHS.

We always point the aerial the same way as everyone else. Failing that we ask the site owner/manager/warden.

Transmitter listings can be mis-leading as they might provide a location but won't confirm if their coverage is intended for where you are.
For example, I have a local TV relay approx 100 yards away, but I don't receive anything from it as it's directional away from my property to cover a specific area; my terrestrial TV is received from a main transmitter 35 mile away instead. Additionally, there are many local repeaters not carrying the full compliment of Freeview services and some not even upgraded whatsoever.

Use of the postcode type search sites will give a good starting point, but you're still better off getting local advice when on site i.e., comparing properties near site etc.

we have had this problem as well but we used an in-door booster aerial and on some sites we got all channels and other sites we got nothing, i just tried this out for we are going in 2 weeks and it says strong, see if this helps

like the others have said follow the other people's near by to the site/on site.

First off we have been using THIS TV Aerial for the past 3 seasons and get perfect picture everytime. With this type of aerial it does not matter whether the transmission is vertical or horizontal as it picks up both.

This year we have invested in this TV Signal Finder and for less than 20 quid, we are now getting a terrific signal, first time, everytime.

We only want the TV when it is wet in the evenings and so I really do not want toi be faffing around in the rain trying to figure out the best way to site the aerial or which direction to point it in.

I couldn't get a signal at all when I was away in Norfolk last week with the aerial I have, so I would be interested in this - but where would I put it in my awning? Does it stand up? I couldn't exactly nail it to a wall to could I?! lol

Hi Tigermouse, We have ours on a standard TV Mast. I guess if I was in a tent then the mast would have to be guyed like a flagpole. Our mast is 3 sections, each about 3 foot. That is mounted on the A-frame of our caravan.

Hi H1TM4N32, We bought a TV Dongle years ago when they were a lot more expensive. It now resides in its original box on a shelf in the study and has been there since a week after it was bought.

We are only about a mile from a TV Transmitter and even at that, the dongle is bloomin' useless. I do hope you have better luck than we had.

I thought everyone looked through the Heki while balancing on the seat cushions and  stretching to turn the ariel in the locker and at the same time trying to remember where 225 degrees is !   Who needs a signal finder when you've got 3 arms and a neck that's 2 feet long ! !

I can recommend a Labgear TV signal meter.
