We thought we had a good deal from Halfords.

We bought a Roofbox over the bank holiday weekend at half price.  Great.

However they only supply one key.  So OH calls in today to see if he can get a spare.

They wanted £14.99 for a pair of spare keys!

Surely it would be reasonable to expect 2keys in the first place!

Sorry, having a rant I know but that sort of thing really winds me up!

Yes, I'd have thought two keys would be standard. Is it the Halfords own brand? I bought a Thule from Halfords, and that came with a couple of keys.

Easy enough to get a spare key cut at a locksmiths or a Timpson or similar for a couple of quid.

Tried 2 or 3 different key cutters.  none of them seem to have a suitable blank.

grumble, grumble!

The fact that they are offering a pair of spare keys suggest they should have come as a pair in the first place.

We have a halfords roof box (donkeys years old now) and it came with two keys.

Try ringing a different store and asking them how many keys that model comes with? or ask on the website?

Show me a photo of the key and i may be able to help or put you in touch with someone local who can help.Im a locksmith.
I have a halfords roof box too and its nothing special on the lock side of things.Let me know the model and i shall pop in my local halfords and take a look.

Also its possible to get keys cut from the code on the keys for far less than £14
Avoid timpsons though as they will probably get it wrong and also cost way too much. Not well thought of in the locksmith world.

Just looked up where you are and if you ever go to wisbech i know mark can do it at his shop here. He does code cutting too so may even be able to post you some without even seeing it.

Thank you.  I'm going to try somewhere local, but if I have no luck I'll give him a try.

I knew somebody on here would be able to help, campers really are the nicest people

They come with 2 keys - did you ask where the other one was?
And it's still a good deal at half price for the roof box isn't it?

I use a screwdriver to open my Halfrauds roof box - always have  seems to me that a lot of those type of locks are purely cosmetic
